TECNO has won two global technology innovation awards at IFA 2026, highlighting the Chinese technology company’s push beyond smartphones into modular devices and high-performance computing.
The company’s TECNO Modular Phone received the Ultra Slim Magnetic Modular Technology Innovation Gold Award, while the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro) won the Miniaturized Gaming PC Technology Innovation Gold Award.
The recognition comes as TECNO seeks to strengthen its position in Kenya and other emerging markets by expanding its product portfolio beyond its established Camon, Spark and POVA smartphone ranges.
The awards were presented under the IFA Global Product Technology Innovation Awards, which recognise consumer electronics products for technology, design and user-focused innovation.
TECNO said the modular phone is designed to address the competing demands for thinner devices and increasing computing requirements driven by artificial intelligence.
At 4.9mm thick, the company describes the device as the world’s thinnest modular smartphone.
The phone uses TECNO’s proprietary Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, combining magnets with pogo-pin connectors to allow users to attach different modules to the handset.
The company says the ecosystem will support 10 high-performance modules, with the phone’s 3,000mAh to 4,000mAh battery able to power the attached components.
The portless design also provides dust and water resistance, according to TECNO.
The device is expected to enter mass production, potentially opening a new category for consumers who want to customise smartphone hardware rather than replace an entire handset when their needs change.
For Kenyan consumers, however, the immediate question will be availability and pricing. TECNO has not indicated when the modular phone will enter the Kenyan market or how much it will cost.
The company’s other award-winning product takes aim at the gaming PC market.
The Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro) is a compact gaming and AI workstation measuring about 6.36 litres in volume.
It combines an Italian-inspired design developed with the Tonino Lamborghini brand with liquid cooling and high-end computing hardware.
The mini PC is powered by an Intel Core i9-13900HK processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics processor. TECNO says it delivers up to 614 AI TOPS and a 145W total graphics power rating.
The machine also has 15 ports, including OCuLink and USB4, alongside Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
The company says its water-cooling system is designed to maintain performance during sustained workloads, positioning the machine for both gaming and artificial intelligence applications.
TECNO also showcased several concept products at IFA, including a Next Gen Bezelless Concept Phone with a claimed zero-millimetre screen bezel and the MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro convertible laptop.
The concept devices are not yet retail products, meaning Kenyan consumers should not expect them to appear in local shops immediately.
The awards nevertheless point to a broader shift in TECNO’s strategy as the company builds an ecosystem spanning smartphones, laptops, tablets, gaming devices, wearables and AI-powered products.
TECNO operates in more than 70 markets across five continents and has established a significant presence in emerging markets, including Kenya.
For Kenyan buyers, the key issue will be whether some of the technology demonstrated at IFA eventually moves from premium concepts into more affordable devices available through the company’s local distribution network.
