The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two women accused of extorting money from a person whose case is under investigation by the anti-graft agency.
The suspects, Hellen Hashiali Masinde and Violet Ndakwa, both from Kakamega County, allegedly claimed to have connections within the EACC that could help terminate the ongoing investigation.
According to the Commission, the two demanded KSh100,000 from the individual and were arrested after allegedly receiving an initial KSh30,000.
EACC suspects the two are part of a wider network of fraudsters operating in the Western Region who impersonate its officers or falsely claim they can influence investigations and other matters before the Commission.
The suspects were processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Central Police Station as investigations continue.
The Commission has cautioned members of the public against dealing with individuals who claim they can influence EACC investigations in exchange for money.
EACC urged anyone approached by such imposters to report the matter to the Commission promptly.
